JDF or Automation? 2 Years ago
Am I wrong when I make the comment that JDF is nothing unless one understands it is merely a method to automate a process?

Furthermore, have a question, JDF was brought to life to integrate systems, no more one supplier shows but now it seems each supplier is busy designing its own MIS workflow so where will JDF or system integration be in 5 years?

Hi Jordan,

Yes you are right making that comment but remember JDF is a standard used to enable cross platform integration.

In other words, a KBA press will now be able to tell a MIS system what it has done or the MIS can tell the KBA press what it has to do BUT you need an interface between the two systems. The one is talking KBA language and the other MIS, so you need a translator in between and in this example that would be Logotronic.

On the second part of your topic:
It is true that there are various vendors trying to bring it all under one umbrella, so to speak, but the industry is so diverse that it would be almost impossible for one vendor to be able to handle all aspects of the print matter workflow.
So JDF is here to stay and best we all embrace it and stay with the flow ;-)

Hope that answers your questions?
