Polish customers opt for Kodak's latest product innovations and Web to print Solutions

Kodak’s presence at Poligrafia 2009 has proved a huge commercial success with the company signing up a number of leading Polish print houses at the event. Wydawnictwo Diecezjalne i Drukarnia purchased the KODAK MAGNUS 800 QUANTUM Platesetter; OZGraf Olsztynskie Zaklady Graficzne invested in the KODAK INSITE Prepress Portal System; Druk Markuszewscy bought the KODAK APPROVAL NX Digital Color Imaging System with laminator; while ZUK Vogar opted for the KODAK TRENDSETTER 800 QUANTUM Platesetter. The companies invested in the KODAK Technology to streamline their production processes and strengthen their position in the Polish print market.

Innovation and increased print quality

Sandomierz-based Wydawnictwo Deicezjalne i Drukarnia is a long-established publishing and printing house belonging to the Church. The company has a young staff and modern equipment. Its publishing arm specializes in producing products for children, while its printing house focuses on book production, board games and puzzles, plus other work such as digitally printed short-run jobs. In addition to producing work for itself, Wydawnictwo Deicezjalne i Drukarnia also provides services for outside customers.

“We’d planned to invest in a new CTP platesetter for a long time,” says Dariusz Krajewski, DTP Manager at Wydawnictwo Deicezjalne i Drukarnia. “We wanted a technologically advanced solution that could produce top-quality work. When we spoke to other Polish printers using KODAK Systems, they all had only very positive things to say about the technology. It was very encouraging to hear such great endorsements before investing.”The company decided on a fully automated version of the KODAK MAGNUS 800 QUANTUM Platesetter. The system images KODAK THERMAL DIRECT Non Process Plates, completely eliminating the developing process. “We were very impressed by how easy the system is to use, and the fact that we’ll be able to offer outstanding print quality to our customers,” adds Krajewski. “Plus we can now take on even the most complicated jobs without any problems. We couldn’t have made a better commercial investment.”The 8-page KODAK MAGNUS 800 QUANTUM Platesetter is equipped with KODAK SQUAREspot Imaging Technology that delivers high throughput and advanced imaging characteristics in every format. The system operates at high speeds and incorporates KODAK SQUAREspot Imaging Technology, which ensures image integrity throughout the whole process.

Wydawnictwo Deicezjalne i Drukarnia was also very impressed at Poligrafia 2009 with the KODAK PRINERGY Workflow System, which drives the MAGNUS Platesetter and offers a number of advantages like correction, normalization, color management and file optimization. Plus it allows printers to reduce prepress costs and errors, drive proofer and press connectivity, and integrate systems. It also offers faster turnaround times, improved automation and optimization of file processing and production management.

Improved deadlines and faster turnaround times

OZGraf Olsztynskie Zaklady Graficzne Spolka Akcyjna has been operating for more than 60 years and has grown by continually investing in the latest printing technologies. The company works mainly with large Polish book publishers, however part of its production is exported to the USA, Canada and a number of countries in Western and Eastern Europe. OZGraf has been enjoying dramatic growth in recent years, prompting the company’s management to invest in ever-more sophisticated technology to meet customer demand.

OZGraf’s latest investment is the KODAK INSITE Prepress Portal System, a complete web-based solution that streamlines the workflow management system. It enables users to submit files via the internet, and allows them to share an online preview with their customers. “One of the main factors that encouraged us to invest in such a system was that our customers are increasingly demanding shorter turnaround times,” says Boguslaw Klapkowski, Head of DTP Department at OZGraf. “This means we’re under greater pressure to produce work that’s right first time, without having to go back and make time-consuming corrections. The KODAK Software lets us communicate far more effectively with our customers, which means there are far less mistakes. This lowers the total cost of production for us, while our customers are much happier as they get the excellent results they were expecting far quicker.”

Mr. Klapkowski also carried out some extensive market research before opting for the KODAK Solutions: “We looked at many solutions on the market but one of the main reasons we opted for Kodak is because it’s so easy to use. When we first tested the system it was with a customer based in Sweden, and we were both really impressed by how quickly we were able to get the job approved." Ozgraf has also furthered its commitment to customer care by collaborating with Kodak Polska on a number of informative workshops for its customers. Swapan Chaudhuri, Country Manager at Kodak Polska, comments: “This year’s Poligrafia was a great success. Not only did we generate a lot of interest among prospects and sign many new contracts, but also our product portfolio enjoyed more industry acclaim when we received two Gold Medals at the show for our revolutionary KODAK NEXPRESS Dimensional Printing System and the KODAK ELECTRA XD Thermal Plate.”
