Versatile digital print solution delivers top quality output at higher speeds.

Recent technological advances in digitalprinting have created a raft of new print applications, helping printersoffer more services to their customers and expand their business. One suchapplication is TransPromo printing, where transactional print meetspro-active marketing. By digitally printing promotional messages on invoicesand other transactional documents, companies can communicate personalisedmarketing messages to their target audience.

TransPromo printing is all about volume, low printing cost per page and fastoutput, which inkjet printing technologies enable. Kodaks answer to thesemarket requirements is the KODAK VERSAMARK V-Series Printing System, whichis ideal for TransPromo printing.

BOOM TISK, a printing company located in Kolin, Czech Republic, invested ina KODAK VERSAMARK Printing System at the end 2008. In the past, the companyfocused solely on offset printing, but it soon turned to the burgeoningdigital printing and direct mail markets to boost revenue. Its digitalinstallation includes a KODAK VERSAMARK VL2000 Printing System with separateperforators and a dedicated inserter.

High-quality output

At the heart of BOOM TISKs state-of-the-art production set-upare two KODAK VERSAMARK VL2000 Printing Systems. The systems allow forduplex printing on both sides of the paper roll simultaneously, ensuringmaximum production speed. The systems can print to a maximum paper width of520mm and a maximum print width of 474mm.

The high speed of the VERSAMARK VL2000 makes it perfectly suited forTransPromo applications. It can process 76m of paper per minute, or up to1,026 A4 pages per minute, the total daily output of the system is morethan one million A4 pages. Printing options include blank and pre-printedpaper from 60 to 160 g/m2 on both coated and uncoated substrates, offeringmaximum versatility. Plus the VERSAMARK VL2000 is compatible with bothpigment and dye water-based inks.

BOOM TISK has two VL2000 Engines linked together, providing duplex printingat full speed. "Most of our work is direct mail related, so it was an easydecision to invest in inkjet printing technology," says Robert Domnosil,co-owner of BOOM TISK. "The VL2000 fulfils all our requirements in terms ofprint quality, speed and cost."

Key focus on efficiency and accuracy

The whole printing system at BOOM TISK is controlled by a KODAK VERSAMARKCS410 System. All printing queues, settings and process parameters areclearly presented in the controllers interface, which manages the entireproduction process, from prepress to finishing. This ensures accuracy andquality throughout the operation.

And because BOOM TISKs entire production set-up is Kodak controlled, itscustomers benefit from more efficient order processing, resulting in cheaperprices and faster delivery times. Although TransPromo is one of the more obvious applications, the KODAKVERSAMARK System can also be used to produce classic transactional printsthat can replace traditional offset-printed forms.

New business opportunities and applications

The KODAK VERSAMARK VL2000 Printing System has proved a great success atBOOM TISK. The system has enabled us to significantly reduce our printingcosts and its particularly impressive when you compare it to the othercommon methods of data personalisation. You typically see forms printedusing an offset printing system before a digital device prints the variabledata printed over the top in black-and-white. With the VL2000, the printingprocess is much faster and cheaper.

The ability to print TransPromo collateral has allowed BOOM TISK to offer anumber of new applications to its clients, helping the company develop newrevenue opportunities. And with significant growth predicted in the localand international TransPromo print markets, BOOM TISK is anticipatingfurther expansion.
